Open year-round, first-come first-served with no reservations or fees. One-night stay limit per trip. Non-potable well water is currently available but must be treated before use. Water is turned off from mid-November to mid-April.

Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are possible through this evening, some of which may occur over areas which recently experienced flooding rains. Slow storm motions and repeat thunderstorm activity will occur within a tropical air mass. Leopards Mill Hiker-Biker Campsite is one of approximately 30 primitive campsites spaced every 5-7 miles along the 184.5-mile C&O Canal towpath. Located at mile marker 129.9 in Washington County near Hancock, Maryland, this site serves long-distance cyclists and hikers traveling the historic canal route between Georgetown and Cumberland. The campsite provides basic backcountry-style amenities: a chemical toilet, picnic table, fire grill, and a hand-pump well. The well water is non-potable and must be filtered, boiled, or chemically treated before consumption. Water is turned off seasonally from mid-November through mid-April. There is no vehicle access to this site. As a hiker-biker campsite, Leopards Mill operates under specific rules: stays are limited to one night per site per trip, quiet hours run from 10 PM to 6 AM, and all trash must be packed out. Fires are permitted only in the provided grill. Pets are welcome but must remain leashed at all times.
