About

Cacapon Junction Hiker-Biker Campsite is a primitive walk-in camping area located at mile 133.6 of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath near Woodmont, Maryland. Part of a network of hiker-biker campsites spaced approximately every 5 to 7 miles along the towpath, this site provides basic amenities for through-hikers and long-distance cyclists traveling the historic canal corridor. The campsite includes a chemical toilet available year-round, a picnic table, grill, and hand-pumped water. Water at this site is non-potable and must be filtered, chemically treated, or boiled before use. Water pumps are shut off from mid-November through mid-April each year. The site is positioned near the Potomac River and may be subject to flooding after heavy rains. This is a free, first-come first-served site with no advance reservations. Stays are limited to one night per site per trip, with a maximum of 8 people and 2 tents allowed. Fires are restricted to the provided grill or portable grills positioned off the ground. Firewood may be collected from dead material on the ground for use in the campground only. The site offers a quiet, rustic camping experience along one of the most historic waterways in the eastern United States.
