Frisco Campground occupies a unique position within Cape Hatteras National Seashore on Hatteras Island, where elevated dunes afford some sites ocean views and dense vegetation provides more privacy than other seashore campgrounds. The rolling topography and proximity to the Atlantic make this a popular base for beachgoers, surfers, and anglers. At night, campers can watch the sweeping beacon of the nearby Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the tallest brick lighthouse in the country. The campground features 117 sites across multiple loops, including standard, RV, and tent-only nonelectric sites. All sites accommodate RVs and trailers up to 40 feet. Facilities include modern restrooms with flush toilets, potable water, and free cold outdoor showers. Each site has a paved parking pad, picnic table, and charcoal grill. Wood fires are prohibited; only charcoal cooking in grills or self-contained stoves is permitted. There are no hookups. Wooden boardwalks provide easy pedestrian access to the beach. An ORV ramp at the campground entrance allows beach driving with a valid Cape Hatteras ORV permit. The historic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is a short drive away. Sandy soil requires longer-than-normal tent stakes, and mosquitoes can be problematic, so netting and repellent are recommended.

Directions

From US-64 East at Nags Head, take NC-12 South through Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. In Frisco, turn left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground at the end of the road.
