A strong and slow moving fall storm system will impact the region from Friday night through Sunday. Well above normal atmospheric moisture levels combined with the dynamics from this storm system will provide the potential for heavy rainfall during this period. Thunderstorms embedded in the more general rainfall will have the potential to produce flash flooding, particularly over recent burn scars. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible, along with Flash Flooding of recent burn scars. * WHERE...All of South Central Montana, Portions of Southeast Montana, and Sheridan County Wyoming. * WHEN...From Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - 1 to 2.5 inches of rainfall is forecast across the watch area Friday night through Sunday. Locally heavier accumulations up to 4 inches are possible where thunderstorm activity develops. - The Robertson Draw, East Side, Elk, and McGhee-Remington burn scars are particularly vulnerable to Flash Flooding and debris flows during the watch period. Jellison Place is a dispersed camping area situated in the scenic Little Belt Mountains of the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. Located along Hopley Creek approximately 25 miles northwest of Harlowton via County Road 102 and Forest Service Road 382, this primitive camping destination offers 10 sites suitable for tent camping and horse camping. The area provides basic amenities including vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. However, potable water is not available, so campers must bring their own water supply. This is a pack-in/pack-out site with no trash service. A 14-day stay limit applies. Bears frequent this area, and mandatory food storage in approved containers is required. All food must be kept out of sight and removed from the camping area after eating. The dispersed nature of the site makes it ideal for those seeking a more primitive camping experience with opportunities for horseback riding and picnicking.
Directions
Located approximately 25 miles northwest of Harlowton. Take County Road 102 north, then Forest Service Road 382 to the campground along Hopley Creek in the Little Belt Mountains.
