About

Deer Creek Cabin is a historic Forest Service guard station nestled in the lodgepole pines of Bridger-Teton National Forest, about 14 miles south of Alpine, Wyoming on Greys River Road. The two-room cabin accommodates six guests in bunkbeds with mattresses provided. Propane powers the heating, lighting, cooktop, and refrigerator, though guests must bring their own cooking utensils and bedding. The cabin compound serves as a free graze area for Forest Service horses during summer months, and a visitor corral is available behind the cabin for those bringing their own stock. Summer amenities include indoor plumbing with a flush toilet, shower, and sink with drinking water, typically operational from mid-June through Labor Day weekend. A vault toilet adjacent to the cabin provides year-round facilities. Greys River flows just across the road, offering excellent fishing opportunities. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and OHV trails originate nearby. Winter access requires snowmobile travel on a groomed trail, with the winter outhouse available when indoor plumbing is shut down. There is no cell phone coverage or electricity at the cabin. All garbage must be packed out, and guests are responsible for cleaning before departure. Wyoming ORV or snowmobile permits are required for motorized vehicles, and out-of-state horses need a current Coggins test with certified weed-free hay.

Directions

From Alpine, Wyoming, head south on Greys River Road (Forest Road 10138). Follow the low-speed gravel road approximately 14 miles. The cabin is on the left (east) side of the road, just past Murphy Creek Campground. Turn left onto Forest Road 10137 into the Deer Creek Guard Station compound. Approximate travel time from Alpine is 20 minutes.
