About

Buck Hall Recreation Area occupies a premier coastal location along the Intracoastal Waterway in Francis Marion National Forest. The campground provides direct access to Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge's 65,000 acres of marsh, tidal creeks, and beaches, as well as Bulls Bay, known as one of the coast's best shrimp baiting areas. The campground features electric and water hookup sites for RVs and separate tent sites, all equipped with picnic tables, lantern posts, and campfire rings with grills. Modern amenities include accessible flush toilets, hot showers, and drinking water. The day-use area offers picnic facilities, a fish cleaning station, and a lighted boat ramp providing access to the Intracoastal Waterway. Anglers can pursue a diverse array of species including bass, flounder, sea trout, snapper, mackerel, swordfish, crab, shrimp, clams, and oysters. The Intracoastal Waterway sees regular traffic from fishing boats and large pleasure craft. A significant section of the Palmetto Trail, which crosses South Carolina from coast to mountains, is accessible from the recreation area. Most of the trail is unpaved and open to hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Charleston is approximately 30 miles southwest.

Directions

From Charleston, take U.S. Highway 17 north for 32 miles to Buck Hall Landing Road (Forest Road 242/1099). Turn right into the recreation area. From Georgetown, take U.S. Highway 17 south for 29 miles to Buck Hall Landing Road. Turn left into the recreation area.
