Sand Lake Campground

About

Sand Lake Campground is situated on the shores of Sand Lake within the Huron-Manistee National Forests, approximately 15 minutes from the Pine National Scenic River. The 50-acre lake offers mostly shallow waters with a sandy swimming beach that transitions to a mucky bottom further out. The campground provides 45 individual sites plus a group camping area, all set within a mixed hardwood forest with varying levels of shade. The campground offers standard nonelectric sites, RV nonelectric sites, and tent-only options. Amenities include flush toilets with private vanities, coin-operated showers, and drinking water faucets. A boat ramp and picnic area provide access to the lake, which is well-stocked with bluegill, perch, and smallmouth bass. Power boating, sailing, canoeing, hiking, and swimming are popular activities. Sites accommodate vehicles up to 40 feet with paved back-in driveways. Campers must obtain firewood locally to prevent invasive pest spread. Check-in is at 2:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM. The campground operates from early May through Labor Day, with reservations available through Recreation.gov.

Directions

From Manistee, travel east on M-55 for 19.5 miles. Turn right and travel south on Snyder Road for 4 miles. Turn right and travel west on FR 5728 for 0.5 miles. The road terminates at the campground.
