About
Swan Lake Cabin is a 12x14-foot rustic Forest Service cabin located at 1,400 feet elevation on the eastern shore of Swan Lake within Chugach National Forest on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. The cabin is surrounded by spruce and birch forest with views of the lake and nearby mountains. Wildlife is abundant in the area, and berries ripen from mid-July through mid-September. The cabin accommodates up to six people on bunks and is equipped with a wood stove, table and benches, splitting maul, crosscut saw, and an outhouse. A rowboat with oars is provided for lake access. Visitors must bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cooking stove, utensils, food, and water. Surface water from the lake requires boiling for at least five minutes before drinking. Recreational opportunities include fishing for rainbow trout, lake trout, Dolly Varden, and sockeye salmon. Hunting is permitted during open seasons with proper Alaska permits. The Resurrection Pass Trail provides excellent hiking and mountain biking in summer, and skiing and snowmobiling in winter when conditions allow.
Directions
From Sterling Highway at milepost 53.2, hike 12.8 miles north on Resurrection Pass Trail South to reach the cabin. Alternatively, access by floatplane takes approximately 15 minutes from Cooper Landing or 30 minutes from Moose Pass. Winter access is possible by ski or snowmobile when conditions permit and motorized use is allowed.
