Forest Order - Recreation Sites, Roads, and Trails

The net effect of this order is to reopen Kinnikinnick Campground and Florence Lake Picnic Area (i.e removing them from Exabit A of the Forest Recreation Closure list).

About

Catavee Campground occupies a forested setting on the shores of Huntington Lake at approximately 7,000 feet elevation in Sierra National Forest. Dense fir and pine trees provide excellent privacy between sites, with some sites positioned along Bear Creek and others offering views of the lake. The campground has 24 sites with paved roads and parking spurs, accommodating RVs up to 30 feet. Huntington Lake is known for its annual sailboat regatta and offers swimming, sailing, boating, fishing, and water skiing. Hikers can access numerous trails including Rancheria Falls, Indian Pools, Black Point, and the 12-mile Kaiser Loop Trail connecting to the Kaiser Wilderness backcountry. The Billy Creek Guard Station Museum adjacent to the campground provides historical interpretation of Huntington Lake, Native Americans, and Forest Service history. The campground typically operates from June through September/October. Campers should bring bear-proof food containers as the area is active bear country. California Land Management sponsors interpretive programs throughout summer at locations around the Huntington Lake basin.
