About
Dutchman Campground is nestled in the Ponderosa pine forest on the northeast shore of Deerfield Reservoir at 5,000 feet elevation in Black Hills National Forest. The 44 campsites are widely spaced, offering privacy, and several provide sweeping views of the lake. Of the three campgrounds in the Deerfield Recreation Area, Dutchman is considered the most RV-friendly. Deerfield Reservoir offers excellent fishing for stocked rainbow trout and native brown trout, plus boating opportunities. The 10-mile Deerfield Lake Loop Trail encircles the lake and is open to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. The nearby Deerfield Trail connects to Rapid Creek and Pactola Reservoir, passing historic sites including log flumes, cabins, mines, and railroad grades. The campground includes vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site. Sites 9, 10, 23, and 37 are double sites that accommodate two rigs and up to 16 people at double the nightly rate. Generators are permitted from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Quiet hours are 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Directions
From Hill City, go west on Highway 17 (Deerfield Road) approximately 14 miles to FSR 607. Turn right (south) on FSR 607 and travel 2 miles to the campground.
