About
Farewell Bend Campground, constructed in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, offers a classic forest camping experience along the Upper Rogue River in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. Located 18 miles west of Crater Lake National Park at the intersection of OR-62 and OR-230, the campground features 61 sites nestled within old-growth forest, with some sites positioned directly along the river. The campground provides excellent access to the Upper Rogue River, which originates from snowmelt and springs on the slopes of Mt. Mazama, the volcanic caldera containing Crater Lake. The river here is narrow, shallow, and swift, carving through Mazama pumice and offering fishing and swimming opportunities. Hikers can explore the Upper Rogue River Trail, which follows the entire length of the Upper Rogue, or the Rogue Gorge Trail System connecting Farewell Bend through Union Creek Campground to Natural Bridge Day Use Area. Nearby attractions include Rogue Gorge, where the river has carved over 200 feet into volcanic pumice, and Natural Bridge, where the river plunges underground through a lava tube. Union Creek Resort is within a mile, providing access to a convenience store, restaurant, and other amenities. The campground features paved roads throughout and includes a popular children's play area. Bears frequent the area, so proper food storage is essential.
