About
Damsite Texas is a compact, well-shaded campground operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Texas side of the Red River, directly below Denison Dam. The 19 sites are nestled among mature pecan trees that provide excellent shade during hot Texas summers. Each site includes water and 30-amp electric hookups, a picnic table, and a fire pit. The location offers outstanding fishing opportunities. The Red River below the dam is known for striped bass, blue catfish, channel catfish, alligator gar, and occasionally American paddlefish. Lake Texoma, accessible via the nearby spillway boat ramp, is called the "Striper Capital of the World" as one of the few reservoirs where striped bass reproduce naturally. Other popular species include largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, and hybrid stripers. The campground operates seasonally from April 1 through November 30. There is no on-site gate attendant, but entrance gates remain open. A day-use area at the campground entrance features picnic tables and a pavilion for visitors who want to enjoy the river without camping overnight.
