About

Yegua Creek Campground is located on the scenic shoreline of Somerville Lake near Somerville, Texas, operated year-round by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The campground features 82 campsites, including 65 sites with 50-amp electrical and water hookups and 17 tent-only non-electric sites. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings. The park entrance is controlled by a gatehouse open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. Modern amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station for RVs. Two boat ramps provide easy lake access for boaters and anglers. An interpretive trail offers opportunities to explore the natural surroundings, where pelicans and other waterfowl frequent the shoreline. Somerville Lake is known for excellent fishing, with populations of white and hybrid-striped bass, crappie, catfish, and largemouth bass that can reach 10 or more pounds. Water sports, hiking, and biking are popular activities. Rocky Creek Park nearby offers additional lake access, and the city of Somerville is less than 10 miles away with restaurants and shops.

Directions

From Austin, take US 290 east to Brenham. Follow HWY 36 north 11.5 miles to FM 1948. Turn left and follow FM 1948 2.5 miles. Turn right into park complex, following campground signs. From Houston, take HWY 290 west to Brenham, then follow the same directions.
