About

Lake Somerville State Park's Nails Creek Unit sits on the southwest shore of Lake Somerville in the Post Oak Savannah region of Texas. The campground caters particularly well to equestrians, with dedicated horse camping areas, corrals, hitching posts, and direct trail access. Non-equestrians are welcome at all sites and benefit from the same amenities including 30-amp electric hookups, water service, fire rings with grills, and picnic tables at every site. The park offers three camping areas within the Nails Creek Unit. Cedar Creek contains 20 sites with water and electric hookups. Bent Tree Equestrian Area has 20 electric sites with horse pens nearby. Ten additional water-only equestrian sites include individual corrals. Restrooms with showers serve the camping areas, and a dump station is available for RV sanitation needs. Recreational opportunities extend well beyond camping. Lake Somerville provides fishing for largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie, along with boating and swimming access via the park's boat ramp. The 13-mile trailway connecting Nails Creek to Birch Creek Unit accommodates hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Primitive backcountry camping is available along the trailway for those seeking a more remote experience.
