About

Buescher State Park preserves a striking section of the Lost Pines, an isolated stand of loblolly pines separated from the main East Texas pine belt by roughly 100 miles of post oak savanna. The 1,017-acre park sits in Bastrop County near the small town of Smithville and showcases classic CCC-era stonework throughout its facilities, including a group hall, pavilion, and several screened shelters. Camping options range from developed electric/water sites in the Cozy Circle and Oak Haven loops to tent-focused water-only sites in the Lakeview area and primitive walk-in sites for those seeking a quieter experience. Every site includes a fire ring with grill and picnic table. Restrooms with showers serve all camping areas. A park store stocks gifts and basic supplies. The 30-acre lake anchors the park's recreation, supporting fishing for bass, catfish, and sunfish as well as non-motorized boating. A 13-mile trail connects Buescher to Bastrop State Park through rolling piney woods, popular with hikers and mountain bikers. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with white-tailed deer, armadillos, and diverse birdlife frequenting the area.
