About

Bastrop State Park encompasses approximately 6,600 acres in the Lost Pines region of central Texas, 32 miles east of Austin. The park is renowned for its unique ecosystem of loblolly pines far removed from the main pine forests of East Texas. After suffering significant damage from forest fires in recent years, the park has undergone remarkable recovery, offering visitors a chance to witness nature's resilience with new growth throughout the forest. The campground provides 76 sites across multiple camping areas: Piney Hill features 25 pull-through full hookup sites, Copperas Creek offers both full hookup back-in sites and electric-only sites, Deer Run has tent-only sites with water nearby, and Creekside provides walk-in tent sites. The park also features historic cabins and a group barracks built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, preserving the craftsmanship of that era. Recreational opportunities include seven miles of hiking trails through the recovering pine forest, fishing at the half-acre Lake Mina and 20-acre Little Alum Creek Lake, swimming at the seasonal pool, and biking the scenic 12-mile Park Road 1C that connects to Buescher State Park. The park offers nature programs, has an all-terrain wheelchair available for reservation, and provides fishing equipment for borrowing. Open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., the park often reaches capacity, making advance reservations highly recommended.
