About

Yates Place Camp occupies a historic home site in Uwharrie National Forest, now repurposed as a primitive tent camping destination. The campground serves as a popular staging area for hikers tackling the nearby Uwharrie National Recreation Trail, a 20-mile path through the forest's rolling Piedmont terrain. Deer hunters also favor this location during hunting season. The site provides basic amenities typical of USFS primitive camps: a vault toilet, picnic tables, and grills. Potable water is not available, so campers must bring an adequate supply. The setting offers a quiet, low-key camping experience away from the more developed campgrounds in the forest. Access is via SR 1147 from Highway 109 west of Troy, then right onto SR 1146 (Dusty Level Road). The Uwharrie Ranger District manages the site and can be reached at (910) 576-6391 for current conditions.

Directions

From Highway 109 west of Troy, take SR 1147, then turn right on SR 1146 (Dusty Level Road). The campground is on the left.
