Morrow Mountain State Park

Open — Open year-round for camping with reservations available. Construction is ongoing to replace water and sewer systems through early 2026. The dump station is closed during construction, and shower-houses may close on short notice requiring use of facilities in other loops. Some campground roads may close periodically with daytime construction noise expected.

About

Morrow Mountain State Park campground is located in the Uwharrie Mountains, offering a unique contrast to the surrounding piedmont landscape of central North Carolina. The campground provides 106 family campsites organized into multiple loops (A, B, and C), with sites accommodating up to 6 people. Sites range from non-electric options at $27 per night to electric sites at $32 per night, with driveway lengths varying from 20 to 46 feet and all sites being back-in configurations. Modern amenities include bathhouses with hot showers, flush toilets, and laundry sinks. For more primitive experiences, the park offers four backpacking campsites accessible by trail at $12-$17 per night. Group camping is available for up to 35 people, and the park also features family cabins and camper cabins for those seeking sheltered accommodations. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring with adjustable grill. The park sits along Lake Tillery and the Yadkin/Pee Dee River, providing excellent fishing and boating opportunities. Miles of hiking and horseback trails wind through the forested hills, including access to the summit of Morrow Mountain. The park is open year-round and accessible from NC highways 24/27, 73, and 740, located approximately 50 miles northeast of Charlotte. Reservations can be made online at ncparks.gov/reservations or by calling 1-877-722-6762, with bookings available up to 6 months in advance.
