About

Art Lilley Campground provides free dispersed camping for OHV riders in Montgomery County within the Uwharrie National Forest. The campground sits in an open field and functions as one of the access points to the Badin Lake OHV Trail Complex, which offers approximately 17 miles of trails across 9 routes ranging from easy to extremely difficult. The trails accommodate dirt bikes, ATVs, UTVs, and full-sized 4WD vehicles. Facilities are primitive: a vault toilet is available on-site, but there is no potable water, hookups, or other amenities. RVs and self-contained campers can use the area, but campers must bring their own water and supplies. The OHV trail system operates seasonally from April 1 through December 15, closing during winter months to prevent soil erosion and stream sedimentation. A valid OHV trail pass (day or annual) is required and must be displayed on vehicles using the trail system. Unlicensed vehicles cannot be driven on roads or through the campground and must be trailered to designated trailheads. The area also allows dispersed camping in the surrounding forest.
