About

Worthington State Forest Campground occupies a prime stretch of Delaware River shoreline in northwestern New Jersey, providing direct access to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The campground spans two miles of river frontage, offering excellent kayaking, canoeing, and fishing opportunities along one of the East's most scenic waterways. The Appalachian Trail passes through the forest, making this a popular basecamp for day hikes and thru-hikers. The 78 established sites are divided into 23 tent-only sites and 52 combined tent/trailer sites suitable for motorhomes and travel trailers. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern holder. Campers have access to flush toilets throughout the campground, bathhouses with showers, and potable water. Bear-proof dumpsters and recycling bins handle waste management, and firewood is sold at the main office during business hours. The forest also maintains three group sites (capacity 35 each) with bear-proof food lockers and modern restrooms. The campground enforces strict rules to preserve the wilderness character. Pets are prohibited in the camping area (service dogs excepted). Alcohol and swimming are not permitted. Black bears are active in the area, so all food must be stored in vehicles or provided bear-proof containers. Quiet hours run from 10 PM to 6 AM, with a 14-night maximum stay and two-night minimum reservation requirement.
