Open year-round for reservations via Recreation.gov. Peak season runs May 1 through September 30 at $75/night; non-peak season October 1 through April 30 at $65/night. Same-day reservations are permitted. Visitors must bring their own drinking water, firewood, sleeping bags, cooking gear, and garbage bags.

About
Winstanley Island Cabin offers a remote wilderness experience on the east side of Behm Canal between Rudyerd and Smeaton Bays within the Misty Fiords National Monument Wilderness. Built in 2010, this rustic 12x14 ft pan-abode style cabin accommodates up to 6 guests with 2 single bunks and 2 double bunks. Amenities include a wood stove with splitting maul, table with benches, cooking counter, food storage, and a nearby outhouse. A mooring buoy is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The surrounding area features rugged mountain peaks and spruce, hemlock, and cedar forest. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with mountain goats, bears, moose, and bald eagles in the area. The waters host Dall's porpoise, orcas, humpback whales, sea otters, and harbor seals. Saltwater fishing is possible near the cabin. Numerous scenic attractions are accessible by boat or kayak, including Walker Cove, Chickamin River, Smeaton Bay, New Eddystone Rock, and the Behm Canal. Rudyerd Bay makes a good day trip for experienced sea kayakers. Several hiking trails to freshwater streams, lakes, and hunting areas are reachable by boat, including Winstanley Lake, Checats, Ella, Manzanita, and Nooya Lake trails.
Directions
Located on saltwater approximately 30 air miles east of Ketchikan on the east side of Behm Canal between Rudyerd and Smeaton Bays. Accessible by float plane or boat only. A mooring buoy is provided. Refer to USGS map Ketchikan B-3 and consult local tide tables before departing. Helicopter access is prohibited in this designated Wilderness area.
