About

The Nooya Lake shelter is a three-sided Adirondack-style shelter located on the edge of Nooya Lake within the Misty Fjords National Monument Wilderness. This remote shelter offers stunning views and opportunities for wildlife observation in one of Alaska's most spectacular wilderness areas. The shelter sits in the north arm of Rudyerd Bay, which opens off the east shore of the Behm Canal. Access to the shelter is by floatplane or boat only, making this a true wilderness experience. The shelter is located in the flight seeing path of floatplanes, so visitors should expect heavy daytime plane traffic from May through August. A pit toilet is available on-site, but visitors must bring all their own water as potable water is not available. The shelter is available on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge, with no advance reservations required or accepted. This is one of five three-sided shelters available in the Misty Fjords National Monument, offering experienced wilderness campers a rare opportunity to experience Southeast Alaska's coastal rainforest and glacier-carved landscapes.
