About

Punchbowl Lake Shelter Site is a free three-sided backcountry shelter at the end of the Punchbowl Lake trail in the heart of Misty Fjords National Monument Wilderness. Surrounded by steep granite cliffs, glacially-carved valleys, and dense temperate rainforest, this site offers some of the most dramatic scenery in Southeast Alaska. The area supports abundant wildlife and bird populations. Access is exclusively by boat or floatplane to Punchbowl Cove, located near the mouth of Rudyerd Bay off Behm Canal. A mooring buoy is available in the cove. From there, a trail leads to the shelter at the lake. Two toilets are available at the site, but campers must bring all their own drinking water as none is available. This is a primitive wilderness experience with no reservations required.

Directions

Punchbowl Cove is located near the mouth of Rudyerd Bay, which branches east off the Behm Canal in Misty Fjords National Monument. Access is by boat or floatplane only. A mooring buoy is located in Punchbowl Cove. From the cove, follow the trail to Punchbowl Lake and the shelter.
