About
Windy Hill Campground occupies a prime location on the southern shore of Roosevelt Lake, central Arizona's largest reservoir, within Tonto National Forest. The campground features 147 individual campsites spread across three loops: Coati, Chipmunk, and Coyote. Each site includes a shade ramada, fire ring with grill, and picnic table, with potable water hydrants distributed throughout. The facility provides vault toilets, showers, playgrounds, and an amphitheater for camper use. The campground's lakeside setting makes it ideal for water-based recreation. A fully accessible boat ramp and fishing dock provide easy access to Roosevelt Lake, where anglers target largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, sunfish, channel catfish, and flathead catfish. Both motorized and non-motorized watercraft are permitted on the lake. On-site hiking trails offer additional recreation opportunities. Windy Hill sits 6 miles southeast of historic Roosevelt Dam along paved roads, making it accessible year-round. The area serves as a base for exploring nearby attractions including Tonto National Monument's cliff dwellings, the Apache Trail and Spines to Pines scenic byways, and the Arizona Trail. The campground operates on a 14-day maximum stay limit with sites available both by reservation and first-come, first-served.
