About
Windy Hill Campground is located on the shore of Roosevelt Lake in Arizona's Tonto National Forest, approximately 6 miles southeast of historic Roosevelt Dam. The campground provides excellent water recreation access with a fully accessible boat ramp and fishing dock. Anglers can expect largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, sunfish, and channel and flathead catfish. Boating, kayaking, and swimming are popular activities. The campground features 147 developed sites spread across four loops: Chipmunk, Coyote, Coati, and Javelina. Each site includes a shade ramada, fire ring with grill, and picnic table. Potable water hydrants, vault toilets, and showers are located throughout the loops. Additional amenities include playgrounds and an amphitheater. The nearest dump station is 8 miles north at Cholla Campground. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F. The campground operates first-come, first-served from April through October, with reservations available November through mid-March via Recreation.gov. Maximum stay is 14 days within any 30-day period. Trailers are limited to 32 feet (20 feet in Coati loop).
Directions
From Mesa: Take State Route 87/Beeline Highway north approximately 60 miles to its junction with SR 188. Turn right onto SR 188 for 33 miles to the junction of SR 88. Continue south on SR 188 for 4 miles to Forest Road 82 (Windy Hill Recreation Site entrance). Turn left and continue 2 miles to the site. Entire route is paved. From Globe: Take SR 188 north 25 miles to FR 82, turn right and continue 2 miles to the site.
