About

Burnt Corral Campground and Recreation Area occupies a spectacular setting along the 17-mile-long Apache Lake, nestled among the canyon walls where the Sonoran Desert meets the water. At 1,900 feet elevation, the campground features 82 developed campsites situated among mature mesquite and palo verde trees, each with a parking spur, fire ring with grill, shade ramada, and picnic table. The contrast of blue water against saguaro-studded hillsides, with the Four Peaks and Superstition Wilderness as a backdrop, creates one of Arizona's most striking desert landscapes. The campground provides excellent lake access through both developed and undeveloped shoreline areas, making it popular for motorboating, fishing, water-skiing, and paddlesports. A paved boat launch and boarding dock serve boaters, while anglers target both warm-water species and trout. Beyond water activities, visitors can hike nearby trails, explore local jeep roads, or simply relax in the desert sunshine. The site is accessible via the Apache Trail Scenic Byway, though the last 20 miles approaching from Apache Junction remain unpaved. Roosevelt Dam lies just 5 miles north, and the historic Apache Trail corridor offers access to additional attractions including Tonto National Monument's cliff dwellings.
