About

Fraizer Horse Camp is the first lakeside equestrian campground built in the Southwestern Region of the Forest Service, nestled into the Sonoran desert landscape at Roosevelt Lake. The campground offers 11 sites exclusively for campers with horses, each equipped with shade ramadas, fire rings with grills, picnic tables, and horse corrals. Potable water hydrants and horse drinkers are available throughout the facility. Riders enjoy direct trail access to the Arizona Trail, an 800-mile non-motorized route, via the Cottonwood Canyon Trail from camp. Roosevelt Lake, dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1911, features 112 miles of shoreline and up to 21,500 acres of surface water when full. The lakeside location provides stunning views of sunsets against the Sierra Ancha, Salome, and Superstition Wilderness areas. Wildlife sightings commonly include mule deer, coyotes, javalina, and occasional bald eagles. The campground sits at a low desert elevation where summer temperatures exceed 100°F. Located 2 miles southeast of historic Roosevelt Dam, the facility is accessible via paved State Route 188 from either Mesa or Globe. Nearby attractions include Tonto National Monument cliff dwellings, the Apache Trail Historic Road, and multiple wilderness areas perfect for extended horse trips.
