About
Frazier Group Campground sits at 2,200 feet elevation overlooking Roosevelt Lake, Arizona's largest lake, in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. This specialized facility is designed as a group camping site accommodating up to 100 people with a large open parking area that can handle various trailer and vehicle configurations. The campground features a ramada shelter with group-sized picnic tables, grills, fire rings, horse corrals, and water tanks, making it particularly popular with equestrian groups. The location provides direct access to the Arizona National Scenic Trail via the Frazier Trail, offering horseback riders, hikers, and mountain bikers miles of trails through the desert landscape dotted with saguaro cacti. The site provides spectacular views of blue water and sunsets against three mountainous wilderness areas. Roosevelt Lake offers excellent boating and fishing opportunities, though there is no boat ramp at the campground itself. Nearby attractions include Tonto National Monument cliff dwellings, the historic Apache Trail (State Highway 88), and the Desert to Tall Pines Scenic Road (State Highway 288). The Tonto Basin Visitors Center is located nearby. All access routes are fully paved, and the campground is approximately 75 miles from Phoenix via Highway 87 and Highway 188.
Directions
From Phoenix: Take State Highway 87 (Beeline Highway) north for about 75 miles to its junction with State Highway 188. Turn right and follow Highway 188 for 33.5 miles to the site, just after the visitor center on the left. From Globe area: Take State Highway 188 north for about 30 miles to the site, just past the Roosevelt Work Center on the right. All routes are paved.
