About
Frazier Horse Campground is nestled into a Sonoran desert landscape at Roosevelt Lake, one of Arizona's most outstanding water-based recreation areas. Located 2 miles southeast of historic Roosevelt Dam at 2,100 feet elevation, this facility holds the distinction of being the first lakeside horse camp built in the Southwestern Region of the Forest Service. The lake, dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1911, boasts 112 miles of shoreline and peaceful coves with 21,500 acres of surface water when full. The campground provides 8 equestrian campsites featuring shade ramadas, fire rings with grills, picnic tables, potable water hydrants, and vault toilets. Horse corrals and drinkers are available for equine companions. Trail users can access the Arizona Trail directly from camp via the Cottonwood trail, while numerous other trails in the area require trailering your horses. Views of the blue water and sunsets against the Sierra Ancha, Salome, and Superstition Wilderness areas draw visitors back year after year. Wildlife including mule deer, coyotes, geese, fox, javelina, and occasional bald eagles frequent the area. Nearby attractions include Tonto National Monument, two National Scenic Byways (Apache Trail and Spines to Pines Highway), and the Superstition, Sierra Ancha, and Four Peaks Wilderness areas.
