About
Frazier Horse Campground is nestled into a Sonoran desert landscape at Roosevelt Lake, one of Arizona's most outstanding water-based recreation areas and the largest of four reservoirs within a 2-hour drive of Phoenix and Tucson. This specialized facility is the first lakeside horse camp built in the Southwestern Region of the Forest Service and is exclusively for equestrians traveling with horses. The campground features 11 campsites with shade ramadas, fire rings with grills, picnic tables, and horse corrals. Potable water hydrants are available for both campers and horses. From camp, riders can access the Arizona Trail, an 800-mile non-motorized trail, via the Cottonwood Trail. Additional trails in the area require trailering horses to trailheads. Roosevelt Lake, dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1911, boasts 112 miles of shoreline and peaceful coves. Views of the blue water and sunsets against the Sierra Ancha, Salome, and Superstition Wilderness areas make this a destination that keeps visitors returning year after year. The area is often alive with abundant wildlife including mule deer, coyotes, geese, fox, javelina, and the occasional bald eagle.
