About

Indian Point Campground provides free primitive camping on the north shore of Roosevelt Lake within Tonto National Forest. Located approximately 13 miles northwest of Theodore Roosevelt Dam, the campground offers direct lake access via a paved boat ramp and several miles of hiking and shoreline trails winding through the site. Facilities are minimal: vault toilets are provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out area with no trash service. The campground accommodates trailers under 16 feet only, making it unsuitable for larger RVs. Dispersed camping opportunities are available nearby for those seeking more remote sites. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations or fees. A 14-day stay limit applies. Quiet hours are 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Access requires crossing Tonto Creek via Forest Road 60; do not attempt this crossing when the creek is flowing.

Directions

From Mesa: Take State Highway 87/Beeline Highway north approximately 60 miles to the junction with State Highway 188. Turn right and follow Highway 188 for 23 miles to Forest Road 60/A Cross Road. Turn left and cross Tonto Creek, continuing 2 miles to Forest Road 661/Indian Point. Continue on FR 661 for one mile to the campground. The route is paved except for the first half mile of FR 60 where it crosses Tonto Creek. From Globe: Take State Highway 188 north 30 miles to the junction with State Highway 88, continue over the bridge another 11 miles to Forest Road 60, then follow directions above.
