About
Willis Creek Park sits on the Willis Creek arm of Granger Lake, formed by a dam on the San Gabriel River completed in 1980. The campground is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and offers diverse accommodation options including standard electric campsites with 20/30 amp electrical hookups and water connections, five equestrian nonelectric sites near the Willis Creek Equestrian Area, and a group site accommodating up to 50 people. Four of the standard sites also feature sewer hookups. The facility provides full amenities including flush toilets, hot-water showers, a dump station, potable water, and trash collection. A boat ramp offers direct lake access. Granger Lake is one of the best lakes in the region for crappie and white bass fishing. The maximum lake surface area is 11,000 acres surrounded by the gently rolling hills of the Texas Blackland Prairie. Horseback riders have access to six equestrian trails ranging from 1 to 5.5 miles in length. The Pecan Grove Wildlife Area, San Gabriel Wildlife Area, Sore Finger Wildlife Area, and Willis Creek Wildlife Area border the lake, offering birding opportunities. The campground is approximately 10 miles from Taylor and 40 miles from Austin.
