Wildhorse Campground
Closed — Closed for the season. Opens mid-June 2026 depending on snow and road conditions. Operates through September 30 on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations.
About
Located at 7,400 feet elevation in the Lost River Region of Salmon-Challis National Forest, Wildhorse Campground provides 13 campsites in a heavily wooded mountain setting. The campground is accessed via Trail Creek Road and Copper Basin Road, with the final approach on Wildhorse Creek Road. Two accessible vault toilets serve the campground, and two hand pumps provide potable water during the summer operating season. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Sites are $10 per night, with a 50% discount available for holders of Senior or Access passes. The remote location offers a peaceful base for exploring nearby Boulder Creek Lake, the Waterfall Trail, and the scenic Wildhorse Canyon area. Activities in the vicinity include fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and OHV riding on designated routes. The campground typically opens in mid-June and closes at the end of September, with exact dates depending on snow conditions and road access. Winter snow closes the access roads, making the campground inaccessible during the off-season.
