Star Hope Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. The campground typically operates from late May through September. Winter road closures on Trail Creek Road and Copper Basin Loop Road prevent access from approximately October through May.

About

Star Hope Campground is situated in a scenic wooded setting along Star Hope Creek in the Copper Basin Loop area of the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The campground features 21 campsites designed for tent and trailer use, though the remote access road and elevation make it better suited for smaller to mid-sized RVs. Three vault toilets and two hand pumps provide essential facilities, with potable water available only during the summer operating season. The campground is located in the Lost River Range area, surrounded by mountain peaks and accessed via the Copper Basin Loop Road (FSR 138). While horses are not permitted within the campground itself, hitching rails are available just outside for equestrian users. The area offers access to numerous recreation opportunities including the Bear Creek Trail, Star Hope Canyon, and mountain lakes in Broad Canyon, Bellas Canyon, and Lake Creek. At an elevation of approximately 7,400 feet, the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. The remote location provides a peaceful camping experience away from crowds, though visitors should be prepared for primitive conditions and come equipped with supplies. Access requires traveling forest roads that close in winter, making the campground a summer and early fall destination only.
