Lake Creek Trailhead & Campground is a small, rustic facility located in the Pioneer Mountains region of the Salmon-Challis National Forest. This first-come, first-served campground features 4 camping units situated in an open sagebrush area adjacent to Lake Creek. The campground is accessed via a network of forest roads including Trail Creek Road and Copper Basin Road, offering a remote camping experience in the Copper Basin area. The campground serves primarily as a trailhead staging area for multiple recreation opportunities. Nearby attractions include the Lake Creek ATV trail, Green Lake Trail, and Muldoon Canyon. While the campground itself does not allow horses within its boundaries, equestrian facilities including hitching rails and a loading ramp are available just outside the camping area. The site can accommodate trailers up to 35 feet in length. Amenities are basic, consistent with the remote location. A vault toilet is provided for campers. The campground operates on a cash or check payment system with nightly fees of $5 per site. Interagency Senior and Access Pass holders receive a 50% discount. The season typically runs from late May through late September, though exact dates vary based on road and weather conditions. Campers should come prepared with their own water and supplies for a primitive camping experience in this high-elevation sagebrush ecosystem.

Directions

From Mackay, take US Highway 93 approximately 16 miles north to Trail Creek Road (FR 208). Turn left and follow for 18 miles, then turn left on Copper Basin Road (FR 135). Follow for 18 miles to the second turnoff to Copper Basin Loop Road at Copper Basin Guard Station. Turn right and follow for 4 miles to the trailhead.
