Wildcat Mountain State Park Horse Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. Opens May 1 and operates through November 14 annually.

About

Located in the scenic Kickapoo River valley northeast of the main park office, Wildcat Mountain State Park Horse Campground caters specifically to equestrians with 24 well-equipped campsites. Each site includes a tether pole (bring your own ropes), picnic table, and fire ring. The campground features shared amenities including hitching posts, corrals, loading ramps, drinking water, vault toilets, and a large parking lot designed to accommodate horse trailers. The campground serves as a gateway to 15 miles of horse trails that meander through the park's diverse landscape. Wildcat Mountain sits on a ridge rising steeply above the Kickapoo River, offering riders scenic views and varied terrain. The park is one of Wisconsin's oldest state parks, established in 1948, and provides a peaceful setting for horseback camping. Campers must bring their own tethering ropes as none are available at the park. Contact the park office for information about using fencing or other restraining devices. All 24 sites can be reserved in advance through the Wisconsin State Park reservation system. Firewood is available for purchase at the campground, and Wisconsin's firewood movement restrictions apply.
