Wild Horse Equestrian Family Campground is one of the few dedicated equestrian facilities in San Bernardino National Forest, situated high in the pine-covered mountains at approximately 7,000 feet elevation. This reservation-only campground is exclusively for campers with horses and offers 11 total campsites, including 8 single-family sites and 3 double sites that accommodate both tent and RV camping. The facility features 30 individual 12' x 12' horse corrals, horse watering stations, a horse staging area, and hitching racks. All sites include picnic tables and campfire rings with grills. Amenities include accessible flush toilets, hot showers, and potable water. The surrounding terrain is rocky and steep yet suitable for beginner and intermediate riders, with tall pine trees providing ample shade throughout the campground. Trail access is exceptional, with the famed Santa Ana River Trail departing directly from the campground. This trail offers a typical one-hour loop through scenic mountain terrain, with connections to the Pacific Crest Trail several miles away. Additional nearby trailheads include Fish Creek Meadow, Mission Creek, Dry Lake, and South Fork. The San Gorgonio Wilderness and its wide open meadows are easily accessible. Big Bear Lake is located approximately 20 miles away, offering additional recreation, dining, and shopping options.

Directions

From I-10 in Redlands, turn onto State Highway 38 and continue north for approximately 31 miles to Forest Route 1N02. Turn right and continue less than a mile to the campground.
