About
Skyline Group Campground is a single-site group camping facility nestled among pine-covered mountains at 6,880 feet elevation in the San Bernardino National Forest. Located within the Heart Bar Campground complex on Forest Service Road 1N02, this campground accommodates groups of up to 25 people and 9 vehicles. The site features paved roads and parking, making it accessible for both tent and RV camping. The campground provides an excellent base for exploring the surrounding wilderness. Backcountry hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails are readily accessible, including the renowned Santa Ana River Trail with its scenic mountain views. The Wildhorse Creek Trail explores 5 miles of rolling terrain, climbing 1,100 feet to a remote camping area near Wildhorse Meadow. The Aspen Grove Trail leads to a small grove of quaking aspen along Fish Creek, offering spectacular fall colors. Creek fishing opportunities are available in nearby mountain streams. While the campground offers a remote and secluded atmosphere, it is located approximately 20 miles from Big Bear Lake, providing access to additional recreational opportunities, dining, and shopping. The campground operates on a pack-in, pack-out basis with no trash service. Bears frequent the area, requiring careful food storage and garbage disposal practices. Reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance through Recreation.gov, with a 2-day minimum stay on weekends and 3-day minimum on holiday weekends.
