About
Shady Cove Group Campground is located within the Children's National Forest, a special area of San Bernardino National Forest that was devastated by wildfire and rebuilt with the help of area children. Situated at approximately 6,000 feet elevation, the campground features three forested group tent sites, one of which is ADA accessible. Each site can accommodate up to 30 people and 8 vehicles, making it ideal for scout troops, family reunions, and other group gatherings. The campground is easily accessible just off paved Keller Peak Road (Forest Service Road 1N96), about five miles from the Deerlick Ranger Station and Children's National Forest Visitor Center. Each group site is equipped with picnic tables, pedestal grills, and campfire circles. Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided at the campground. The location offers excellent access to hiking, mountain biking, and birding opportunities. The Trail of the Phoenix, a short paved interpretive trail, begins at the Children's National Forest entrance about three miles from the campground. The area provides a cool mountain retreat with tall pine trees and breezy air, keeping temperatures comfortable during summer months. Arrowbear Lake is about five miles away, stocked annually with rainbow trout in spring. The nearby community of Running Springs offers dining, shopping, groceries, and fuel stations.
Directions
From Running Springs, drive approximately one mile on Highway 18 to the Deerlick Ranger Station/Children's National Forest Visitor Center. Turn right on Keller Peak Road and continue about five miles. Follow signs to the campground.
