About

Mission Spring Trail Camp is a primitive backcountry camping area located in the Barton Flats-San Gorgonio Recreation Area of San Bernardino National Forest within Sand to Snow National Monument. This remote trail camp features 2 isolated tent camping sites designed for PCT hikers, backpackers, and equestrians seeking a peaceful retreat away from developed campgrounds. The site includes two picnic tables, two campfire rings, and four horse corrals for equestrian visitors. As a dispersed camping area, this trail camp does not offer the amenities of developed campgrounds. There are no restrooms or trash facilities, so visitors must pack out all waste. Potable water is not available on-site, though nearby Mission Springs may have seasonal water flow that must be filtered or boiled before consumption. The camp provides access to excellent hiking and horseback riding opportunities, with the Pacific Crest Trail and Fish Creek Trail nearby. Access is via Forest Service Road 1N02, which is subject to seasonal winter closures. A California Campfire Permit is required year-round for any fire use including campfires, charcoal BBQs, or stoves, and campfires may be prohibited during periods of high fire danger. All sites are available first-come, first-served with no advance reservations.
