About
Heart Bar Campground is located in San Bernardino National Forest at 6,880 feet elevation, nestled among pine-covered mountains along the Rim of the World Scenic Byway. The campground provides a remote and secluded atmosphere while remaining accessible, located approximately 20 miles from Big Bear Lake and 41 miles east of San Bernardino. The campground offers multiple single, double, and accessible campsites suitable for both tent and RV camping. Each site is equipped with tables and campfire rings with grills. Mature pine trees provide shade to the area, though understory is limited, leaving some campsites with less privacy. A dump station with potable water is available nearby, and additional parking is provided for extra vehicles. Recreational opportunities abound with access to some of southern California's greatest backcountry hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. The famed Santa Ana River Trail provides miles of scenic mountain views and exploration points. The Wildhorse Creek Trail, accessed just north of the campground, explores 5 miles of rolling terrain, climbs nearly 1,100 feet in elevation, and leads to a remote camping area south of Wildhorse Meadow. Creek fishing is also available nearby. Big Bear Lake offers additional water-related recreation, golf, shopping, and dining options.
Directions
From I-10 in San Bernardino, take the Alabama exit in Redlands to Lugonia Avenue (State Highway 38). Travel northeast on Highway 38 for approximately 30 miles to Forest Route 1N02. Continue less than a mile to the campground.
