About

Heart Bar Equestrian Campground is a dedicated group equestrian facility located in the Heart Bar Campground Complex in San Bernardino National Forest, just outside the Sand to Snow National Monument. Situated at 6,880 feet elevation in pine-covered mountains, this single large group site accommodates up to 65 people and 21 vehicles, with 46 corrals available for horses. Only campers with horses are permitted at this facility. The campground features multiple picnic tables, a group fire ring with grills, accessible flush toilets, showers, and drinking water. Both tent and RV camping are permitted. Firewood is available for purchase at the adjacent Heart Bar Family Campground. The site provides access to excellent horseback riding trails, including the popular Santa Ana River Trail and Wildhorse Creek Trail, which climbs nearly 1,100 feet over 5 miles to reach remote camping areas near Wildhorse Meadow. Located approximately 20 miles from Big Bear Lake on Highway 38, the campground offers a secluded mountain experience while remaining accessible to Southern California's backcountry. The area is known for scenic mountain views, creek fishing opportunities, and proximity to the San Gorgonio Wilderness. Bears are active in the area, requiring proper food storage and garbage disposal practices.
