Minneiska Campground
Open year-round with sites available for reservation through the Minnesota State Parks system.
Special Weather Statement issued May 4 at 2:29AM CDT by NWS La Crosse WI
The combination of low relative humidity values, warm temperatures, southwesterly winds becoming northwesterly winds, and dry fuels will result in elevated fire weather conditions from mid morning through the late afternoon across northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota, and southwest and west central Wisconsin. Afternoon relative humidity values will fall to around 25 to 30 percent with winds of 10 to 20 mph, gusting to 35 mph through much of the day. Under these conditions, fires will start and spread easily. Please exercise caution with any activities that involve outdoor fires or create sparks, including campfires, grilling, and operating large equipment. Cigarettes should be disposed of and extinguished properly. Please heed any local burn bans.
About
Minneiska Campground at Whitewater State Park opened in August 2017 as a modern replacement for the flood-prone Gooseberry Glen campground. Named with the Dakota word for whitewater, this campground sits across Minnesota Highway 74 from the park's visitor center in southeastern Minnesota's blufflands. The facility offers 40 campsites with electrical hookups suitable for RVs and trailers, plus 4 walk-in tent sites for a more secluded camping experience. Four year-round camper cabins provide an alternative to tent or RV camping with walls and basic amenities. The campground features modern restroom buildings equipped with flush toilets and hot showers, and three group camps each have their own picnic shelters sharing a dedicated restroom facility. A dump station serves RV campers, and the entire campground is supported by a 40 kW solar array that offsets energy use. Vegetation continues to mature around the newer sites, which are spaced to provide reasonable privacy between neighbors. Guests at Minneiska have access to all of Whitewater State Park's 2,700 acres, including picturesque 200-foot limestone bluffs, the spring-fed Whitewater River and Trout Run Creek renowned for brown, brook, and rainbow trout fishing, a sandy swimming beach, and trails ranging from easy to challenging. The park's year-round visitor center offers equipment loans including GPS units and fishing kits. The campground operates year-round with sites available for reservation.
