About

Whitehouse Campground occupies a prime riverside location on the Lochsa Wild and Scenic River corridor, one of Idaho's most scenic waterways. Positioned at milepost 158.5 along US Highway 12, the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway and All American Road, the campground sits approximately 49 miles west of Lolo, Montana. The 11-site campground can accommodate RVs up to 30 feet and provides basic amenities including vault toilets and drinking water via a hand pump. The area offers excellent opportunities for river fishing, including steelhead runs on the Lochsa. Hikers and backpackers can access trails along this corridor, and the scenic drive itself draws visitors seeking wildlife viewing and photography. The campground's proximity to the historic Lewis and Clark Trail adds an educational dimension, as this route closely follows the path of the famous 1805-1806 expedition. The campground was severely damaged by a windstorm in 2024 that toppled hundreds of trees and damaged infrastructure. The U.S. Forest Service partnered with Idaho Fish and Game to restore the facility, clearing blowdown, removing hazardous trees, and repairing damaged picnic tables and restroom facilities.
