This remote destination campground sits at 5,756 feet elevation, just a short distance from the 1.34 million acre Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. Located 24 miles south of Highway 12 via Elk Summit Road, the campground features 15 campsites spread across three loops, with stock facilities available in Loops A and B. Hoodoo Lake is just a short walk from the campground, providing easy access to alpine scenery. The campground serves as a gateway to some of the nation's wildest backcountry, with numerous remote alpine lakes and mountain peaks accessible via wilderness trails. Stock use is permitted in designated loops, making this a popular base for horse packers heading into the wilderness. The setting features dense timber and mountain scenery typical of the northern Rockies. This is rugged country with no cell phone service, and visitors must be self-sufficient. The campground operates on a pack-in, pack-out basis with no garbage services. Access is via forest roads that are not plowed in winter, and the site is only accessible when snow conditions permit, typically opening in July and closing in late autumn.

Directions

From Lolo, MT head west on Highway 12 for 44 miles and turn left onto Elk Summit Road 360. In 5.4 miles, turn right onto Forest Road 360 and continue 14 miles to the campground.
