About

White Sand Campground is a small, quiet campground in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, tucked beneath a canopy of mixed conifers and shrubs adjacent to White Sand Pond. Located 59 miles southwest of Missoula, Montana, the campground offers seven sites in a single loop, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. A day-use area along the pond provides fishing and picnicking opportunities. The campground sits at 3,500 feet elevation along the Elk Summit Road corridor, just one mile from US Highway 12. The nearby Lochsa River is renowned for spring whitewater rafting and fishing for cutthroat trout, steelhead, and mountain whitefish. Several trails in the area provide access to the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. This is a primitive campground with vault toilets but no potable water. Campers should bring their own drinking water. Sites accommodate RVs up to 30 feet and are available first-come, first-served at $14 per night.
