About

Whitehall Bay Campground is situated on the shores of Fall River Lake, a 2,400-acre reservoir in southeastern Kansas managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The campground offers 20 family campsites with electric hookups and 4 group sites, making it suitable for both small groups and larger gatherings. Rolling prairies and tree-dotted valleys sheltered by limestone-capped ridges surround the lake, which stretches up the picturesque Fall River for 15 miles. The campground provides modern amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, a dump station, and a playground. A swimming beach and boat ramp offer direct lake access for swimming, boating, water skiing, and fishing. For nature enthusiasts, the adjacent 8,000-acre Fall River wildlife area provides exceptional birding opportunities with over 400 protected bird species, as well as sightings of prairie chickens, waterfowl, wild turkeys, white-tailed deer, and other native wildlife. Nearby hiking and biking trails include the 1.5-mile Casner Creek Trail, which winds through forest and opens onto wildflower displays in spring and summer, and the 1-mile Turkey Run Trail, which traverses wooded ravines and tallgrass prairie with lake views. Fall River State Park is also nearby, offering additional opportunities for hiking, fishing, birding, and canoeing along the river.

Directions

From US Highway 400, turn left (north) at mile marker 344 (Z 50 Road) for 0.09 miles, turn right (east) for 2.8 miles across the dam, turn left (north) for 0.8 miles, turn left (west) for 0.7 miles, turn right (north) for 1.7 miles to low water crossing, continue straight (north) for 0.1 miles, turn west for 0.4 miles, turn left (south) for 1.1 miles to the campground entrance.
