Fall River State Park

Open — Open year-round with walk-in camping only during winter. Electricity to campsites remains on year-round. Water to campsites and shower facilities are shut off for winter; a frost-free hydrant is available at the Fredonia Bay entrance. The RV dump station behind the Fredonia Bay shower house remains usable, though the rinsing tower is off. Vault toilets in South Rock, Casner Creek Campground, and Quarry Bay are open year-round.

Fall River State Park sits at the unique intersection of the Cross Timbers forest region and the tallgrass prairie of the Flint Hills in southeastern Greenwood County, Kansas. This 1,107-acre park showcases remarkable biodiversity across forested floodplains, blackjack savannas, and native prairie ecosystems. The park provides access to the 2,450-acre Fall River Reservoir and the scenic Fall River itself, popular for canoeing and fishing. Camping facilities include two main areas: Fredonia Bay Campground offers 44 electric/water sites, 1 full hookup site with water/sewer/electric, and 32 primitive sites, while Quarry Bay Campground provides 17 primitive sites. Both areas have ADA-accessible sites. Three modern cabins (Cedar Crest, Heron's Cove, and Willow Bend) are available year-round in the Gobbler's Knob area within Fredonia Bay, featuring full kitchens, bathrooms with showers, and views of the reservoir. Six hiking trails ranging from 0.1 to 1.5 miles offer excellent wildlife viewing, including the Casner Creek Trail leading to a kids fishing pond. Bird watchers and photographers will find diverse species across the park's varied habitats. Adjacent to the park, over 9,000 acres of public wildlife area are managed for hunting dove, quail, deer, turkey, rabbit, squirrel, waterfowl, and prairie chicken. Recreation facilities include playgrounds, a swim beach area, and an RV dump station.
