Outlet Channel campground sits in a quiet setting below Elk City Dam along the Elk River in Montgomery County, Kansas. Located approximately 5 miles northwest of Independence, the campground offers a peaceful riverside environment below Table Mound, an area known for its natural rock formations. The campground features a mix of electric and non-electric campsites suitable for tents and RVs. Recreational opportunities abound at Outlet Channel, with direct access to the Elk River Hiking Trail and nearby mountain bike trails including the Eagle Rock Mountain Bike Trail. Anglers can fish the Elk River, while campers can enjoy on-site amenities including basketball courts and a sand volleyball court. The campground also features a group shelter for larger gatherings. The location provides convenient access to the city of Independence, located 5 miles to the southeast, while maintaining a tranquil natural setting. The area is popular for birding, hiking, and backpacking, with multiple trails radiating from the Elk City Lake area. Located approximately 5 miles northwest of Independence, Kansas. From Independence, take US 75 north for 7 miles, then west 4 miles and south 2 miles on county roads.
