About

Outlet Channel is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground located below Elk City Dam along the Elk River, approximately 5 miles northwest of Independence, Kansas. The campground occupies a quiet setting beneath Table Mound, which features natural rock formations. Sites are available with 50-amp electric and water hookups or as primitive non-electric sites, accommodating tents, RVs, and trailers. The area offers diverse recreation including fishing in the Elk River, access to the Elk River Hiking Trail, and nearby mountain bike trails. On-site amenities include a basketball court and sand volleyball court, plus a reservable group shelter with electric hookup. The campground operates seasonally from April through October. Sites are available both on a first-come, first-served basis and through advance reservation via Recreation.gov. Pets are permitted on leash.

Directions

Located approximately 5 miles NW of Independence, KS. From Independence, go north on US 75, west on county roads following signs to Elk City Lake and Outlet Channel.
