About
Card Creek Campground is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility located along Card Creek where it flows into Elk City Lake in Montgomery County, Kansas. Situated 5 miles west of Independence, this campground provides year-round camping with 15 electric campsites and 5 primitive sites in a scenic lakeside setting.
The campground offers excellent fishing opportunities in Card Creek and Elk City Lake, with species including largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, white bass, and saugeye. A hiking trail runs adjacent to the campground, and the nearby Elk River Hiking Trail provides additional exploration opportunities. The area is popular with hunters, as it's located near Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism hunting areas within the Elk City Wildlife Area.
Facilities include a shower building with restrooms, a vault toilet, a dump station, and a boat ramp for lake access. The campground features a group shelter with electricity available for reservation. Campers can enjoy boating, kayaking, canoeing, wildlife viewing, and stargazing. From Independence, follow Highway 160 west to the brown directional signs and follow the blacktop to the park.
