About

Whitefish Lake State Park sits on 10 acres along the western shore of Whitefish Lake in Montana's Flathead Valley, about a mile west of downtown Whitefish. The park provides 25 campsites divided between an upper and lower loop, accommodating tent campers and RVs up to 40 feet in length. A dedicated hiker/biker site serves cyclists traveling the nearby Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. Bear country protocols apply: all food must be stored in the provided bear-resistant lockers or hard-sided vehicles. Facilities include flush toilets, pay showers, potable water, fire rings, and picnic tables. Limited hookups are available at select sites. The park's location on Whitefish Lake makes it ideal for water activities including swimming, boating, water-skiing, and fishing. A concrete boat ramp and dock provide lake access, though all watercraft must pass mandatory inspection before launching. The lower loop (sites 12-24) and hiker/biker site remain open year-round, while the upper loop and seasonal amenities like showers and water close in early October and reopen in late April or early May. Train tracks border the park, with freight trains passing frequently and occasionally stopping adjacent to the campground. Quiet hours are enforced 10 PM to 7 AM, with a maximum stay of 14 days.

From downtown Whitefish, head west on U.S. 93 for 1 mile, then turn north and continue 1 mile to the park entrance at 1615 W. Lakeshore Drive.
