About
Upper Stillwater Lake Campground is a small, primitive campground located 23 miles from Whitefish in the Flathead National Forest, near the town of Olney. This free, first-come first-served facility features 5 designated campsites situated along the Stillwater River and Upper Stillwater Lake. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, picnic tables at each site, a gravel boat launch, and day parking. The area is popular for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. Anglers can fish in Upper Stillwater Lake, while boaters can launch both motorized and non-motorized watercraft. Several hiking trails near the campground provide access to the surrounding forest. The campground accommodates smaller trailers with a maximum recommended length of 12 feet. Campers should come prepared for primitive conditions. No potable water is available on-site, and this is a pack-in, pack-out facility with no trash service. Pets are allowed if kept on leash. A 16-day stay limit applies, and quiet hours are enforced from 10 PM to 6 AM. The campground is open year-round but the access road is not plowed during winter months.
Directions
Located 23 miles from Whitefish. Take Highway 93 northwest toward Eureka, Montana, go 22 miles, turn left at the Stillwater CG Lake site sign. Follow the signs to the campground, which is 1 mile from the highway.
